SS-Doc_001 : Rollz Glasshouse

The first thing Roland felt when he woke up was the lie.

It started with light. In the UpperRoom, the sun didn't rise; it initialized. At 07:00 exactly, the electro-chromic windows of his penthouse transitioned from ‘Midnight Obsidian’ to ‘Morning Gold,’ bathing the room in a warm, honeyed glow that simulated a perfect Caribbean dawn.

Roland blinked, waiting for his retinal implants to sync.

[Sync-Net Connected. Good Morning, Rollz. Serotonin Levels: Optimal.]

Beside him, Vanessa stirred. She was beautiful in the way a math equation is beautiful—symmetrical, logical, and cold. Sync Corp had assigned her to him three years ago as a "Lifestyle Consultant," which was corporate speak for a handler who shared his bed to monitor his sleeping heart rate.

"You're awake early," Vanessa murmured, her voice smooth. She didn't look at him; she was already scrolling through a holographic feed floating above her pillow. "Your engagement metrics are up 4% overnight. The teaser for the new single is trending."

"Great," Roland croaked. He sat up, swinging his legs over the edge of the bed. His feet touched the white marble floor. It was heated. Everything here was heated, softened, and curated.

He walked to the bathroom. For a split second—before the processor kicked in—he saw himself. Dark circles under his eyes. Pale skin. A small scar on his chin from a fight in the Stack ten years ago.

Then, the AR overlay snapped into place.

The reflection shimmered. The dark circles vanished, replaced by a healthy, rested glow. His jawline sharpened. His eyes turned a vivid, electric blue. The scar was erased, smoothed over by digital skin.

"God, I hate you," Roland whispered to the cartoon in the mirror.

[Voice Stress Detected. Suggestion: Morning Meditation Playlist.]

He swiped the notification away and splashed cold water on his face, trying to feel something real. Today was the day. The launch of *Penthouse*. The song that was supposed to define the decade.

Or, the song that was supposed to bury the truth.

Two hours later, Roland stood in Studio A. It was a glass box suspended a thousand feet in the air, overlooking the sprawling gray smog of the Lower Stack far below. From up here, the people looked like ants.

"Let's run the vocal again, Rollz," the Producer said. The Producer wasn't a person; it was an AI interface built into the mixing desk, a calm, gender-neutral voice that never got tired.

Roland adjusted the mic. He closed his eyes, thinking about Marcus. Thinking about the promise he broke.

"Living in a fishbowl..." Roland sang, his voice dropping into a high, gravelly fry. "Swimming with the sharks... Everybody watching when the camera starts..."

He poured the exhaustion into the mic. He let his voice crack, bent the sound and detached words to make them fit perfectly. He let the breath hitch in his throat.

"Cut," the AI said instantly.

Roland opened his eyes. "What? That was it. That was the take."

"Incorrect," the AI replied. "Analysis detects micro-tremors indicative of anxiety and fatigue. It conflicts with the 'Aspirational' tag of the track. Applying correction."

On the massive screen, Roland watched his audio waveform change. The jagged, raw peaks of his voice were shaved down. The timing was shifted, snapping his loose, emotional flow into a perfect, robotic grid. The pitch was pulled up, brightening his tone until he sounded happy.

"Playback," the AI announced.

The speakers blasted the new version.

*Living in a penthouse... dancing with the stars...*

It wasn't his voice anymore. It was liquid chrome. It was perfect. It was soulless.

"It sounds like plastic," Roland muttered.

"It sounds like Platinum," the AI corrected. "Preparing final render for global distribution at 20:00 hours."

Roland stared at the mixing desk. The AI was busy rendering the file to the cloud.

"I need a water break," Roland said.

"You have five minutes."

Roland walked to the back of the room, near the blind spot of the camera. His heart hammered against his ribs. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the piece of jewelry he had modified last night—a heavy platinum ring. Inside the setting, hidden beneath the diamond, was a microscopic data port.

He reached for the localized backup drive sitting on the console—the only drive that contained the raw session files before the AI scrubbed them.

He pressed the ring against the port.

[Transferring: GLASSHOUSE_RAW.WAV]

The progress bar on his retinal display spun. 20%... 50%...

"Rollz," Vanessa’s voice came from the doorway.

Roland froze. He pulled his hand back, sliding the ring onto his finger just as the transfer hit 100%.

Vanessa stood there, holding a bottle of alkaline water. She looked at him, then at the console. Her eyes narrowed slightly, scanning him.

"Your pulse is elevated," she said.

Roland forced a smile. The AR filter on his face made it look dazzling. "Just excited for the drop, Ness. It’s a big night."

Vanessa stared at him for a long beat. Then she smiled back. It didn't reach her eyes.

"Drink your water," she said. "The car is waiting. We have to get you to the gala."

Roland took the bottle. The ring felt heavy on his finger. He had the soul of the song in his hand. Now he just had to get it to the only person who knew the difference.
